Hi all,
As noted elsewhere, these authors include the holotype of Homo
rhodesiensis, a skull named Kabwe 1, within their new proposed taxon with
its new name, giving some reasons (to their mind) while the name
"rhodesiensis" should be suppressed. However this is not the same as
formally applying for the ICZN to suppress the name rhodesiensis, and until
the latter is done (and a ruling obtained), I would have thought that
rhodesiensis would still be the correct name? These authors can propose
suppression of rhodesiensis in their paper, but I would have thought that
this has no standing within the rules of ICZN, although I guess taxonomists
can "vote with their feet" since the ICZN Code is not a legal instrument...
Just wondering out loud, really.
Regards - Tony
