Dear Steffi,
The Gray Herbarium at Harvard one tried but they soon discontinued the practice due to a massive counterreaction from numerous other herbaria. The other herbaria feared the change in tradition. Now we just eagerly wait for the deaths of Trump and Putin.

Due to current underfunding of ALA, we are sadly unable to offer loans or sampling of our collections without charging for our staff time and shipping costs.  This breaks with decades of tradition of offering our herbarium services for free, but is the only way we can continue to operate a material loan service.  Have other herbaria implemented similar loan fee structures?
