Funny how 'leading' scientific journals are so often in the vanguard of
sidelining whatever they feel discomfort over. I usually refer to such
journals as 'prominent', 'popular' or 'dominant' as they may exert power,
'prestige' (I've even seen scientists boasting that their paper is in a
prestigious journal - good grief) but this has no necessary bearing on
whether they are leading or not. Systematic Biology (at least as its
preceding Systematic Zoology) used to be a leading journal,
publishing contrasting and opposing views concerning the contentious issues
of the day. Now it's just a boring moribund shadow of its former self -
even if it remains for some a prestigious or prominent etc.
Cheers, John
