Taxacom: question on taxonomic authority

Changing the taxon Taenioides cirratus (Blyth, 1860) from species to subspecies is a change in rank, which is sometimes given as “stat. nov.” [i.e., status novum]. It is not a nomenclatural act but a taxonomic opinion (as Adam just mentioned).

Changes in rank from species to subspecies (or vice versa) will not qualify as new combinations as these changes do not involve the combination with the generic name.
