Taxacom: New or old news... virus nomenclature goes binomial

Probably old news to some - especially in the virus community!! - but I
discovered just today that all virus species names have been converted (or
are being converted) to binomial format (genus|| ||species) so as to be
conformant with names in other taxonomic groups. For example (this alert
via Wikispecies discussion page, for which thanks), "Rift Valley fever
phlebovirus" now has the scientific name Phlebovirus riftense. According to
a recent official report in June 2023:

"Of note, a large number of proposals renamed existing species for
compliance with the recently mandated binomial nomenclature format. As a
result, 8,982 out of the current 11,273 species (80%) now have binomial
names. The process will be concluded in 2023, with the remaining 2,291
species being renamed."

Just in case this is of interest to Taxacom readers (I could not find any
early discussion of this topic, although may have missed it of course),
also taxonomic database designers who desire to encompass those names in
the "new" rather than "old" formats.
