In Botany we have TNRS:
https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftnrs.biendata.org%2F&data=05%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C1360a975091a478c9f0c08db7cbe83ef%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C638240929946946249%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=5731hOPGIwPuTEDzck9eF0I7h%2FYXmArARJnAbrAB5CU%3D&reserved=0
that solves all those problems in an instant.
You can register new names https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fipni.org%2Fregistration%2F&data=05%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C1360a975091a478c9f0c08db7cbe83ef%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C638240929946946249%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=gC9eHBEk9SJzCgLiBZ3egDm8unHDdvmFz9x4iHHt9%2B8%3D&reserved=0 and the editors will check the gender and orthography for you, so at least in botany there is no need for users of names to ever look at the code or try and apply the rules of orthography.

Lordy knows, that as a Hymenopterist I'm rarely in agreement with Lepidopterists, but I'm on the side of those who prefer retaining original orthography. Gender agreement is a nice "extra", but as noted before, it is simply a convention that has little scientific value. I instead come down on the side of ease of use, which theoretically should reduce mistakes. In today's modern times, searching for a name typically entails machine
(computer) usage, which can give you exactly what you search for, but (depending upon which program one uses) not near relatives . This can be really severe when dealing with names that have been used repeatedly within a group (niger, californica, etc.), and you may not be sure if nigra, californicum, etc. refers to the exact organism you had in mind. Keeping the original spelling would make these type of searches much easier.
