Taxacom: Vernon Hilton Heywood

[Alastair Culham]

Dear colleagues on Taxacom,

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of Vernon Heywood, Emeritus Professor of Botany, on the night of Saturday 17th/Sunday 18th September. Vernon was an inspirational head of the Botany Department at The University of Reading, moving to BGCI in 1987 and remaining there until his retirement. He continued as an active and highly respected botanist on the international stage after retirement. He was one of the twenty five Fellows honoris causa of the Linnean Society and was Father of the Linnean Society from 28th January 2020.
