Recently I received an inquiry from a forestry colelalgue in Vietnam asking
for help with a beetle ID. It was a small, mostly nondescript species and I
thought what are the chances for the tropics where there are thousands and
thousands of the beasties? But I passed it on, with photos, to a colleague
at the Carnegie Museum who suggested a family and passed it on to a
specialist, who passed it on to another, and again and again, five times
altogether, across about four countries, but finally success! The species
was identified. This is cooperation at its best! All of these people have a
lot on their plate and finding obsecure species is not the easiest at any
time. I think it truely admirable to have such help and assistance this
way. We do still live among 'the greatest generation'. Taxonomy is
important, but taxonomists even more so. I am blessed.
Cheers,
