Taxacom: Research Gate question

Hopefully someone on this list is familiar enough with the workings of
ResearchGate to answer a simplistic question. Periodically I get
notifications of having so many 'reads' of a particular article. I am
presuming this means that individuals have read or viewed the article, but
is that through ResearchGate only or in general (i.e. RG is vacuuming it up
from other sources)?

Also, I had a notification of 'congratulations, your article reached 800
reads', but this is for a rather obscure taxonomic article on a single
species that was published just earlier this year. So the quantity seems
out of proportion to the time, although it is an open access article. Can
anyone comment on this?

Thanks,

John Grehan
