Calling all taxonomists! 2023 sees the 200th anniversary of the birth of the prolific natural history collector and co-discoverer of natural selection, Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913). He collected around 126,000 specimens of birds, beetles, butterflies etc in S.E. Asia (the 'Malay Archipelago'), including probably more than 5,000 new species. Many of the birds were shot by his paid assistants, but most of the 110,000 insect specimens were personally collected by him. Given his vast contribution to our understanding of the natural history and biogeography of this region, and of biology in general, it would be a fitting tribute if species/genera could be named after him and published during (or just after) the anniversary year.
