Dear all,

We will be looking for two post-docs and (eventually) one PhD student to
come and join our lab at the Guangdong Institute for Applied Biological
Resources, Guangzhou, China, starting next year. Haven't managed to get
them to put the announcement on the institute's homepage yet, but it's
listed here:

http://bsp.uk.net/jobs/

The positions are part of a recently funded NSFUSA/NSFChina project on
coevolution of birds, their chewing lice, and the gut symbionts inside the
chewing lice. Our American partners are at the Illinois Natural History
Survey and the University of Utah. The post-doc positions will also be
funded through the Guangdong Academy of Science and the institute's own
grants. The PhD position is funded through the NSF grant.

The work will involve a lot of field work in South China (primarily
Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Hainan), and the applicants must be wiling
and able to relocate to China. Other than the field work, the jobs will
include taxonomy of chewing lice, phylogenetic reconstruction, rearing of
symbiont and free-living bacterial cultures, and other parts. We estimate
that about 98% of the chewing louse fauna of China is unknown, as there has
never been any serious study of it before I came here in 2017, so there's a
lot of taxonomic work to be done as well.

If you know anyone who would be suitable and interested in either of these
positions (PhD announcement not formalized yet), please forward the link
above to them.

Best wishes,
Daniel
