Dear Taxacomers,
Eleven PhD positions on Diptera and Hymenoptera systematics are now open at
the Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig, Bonn (ZFMK), the State
Museum of Natural History Stuttgart (SMNS) and the SNSB-Bavarian State
Collection of Zoology (ZSM), as part of the project GBOL III: Dark Taxa
(German Barcode of Life), which will launch in 2020.
The GBOL initiative aims at assembling a comprehensive DNA barcode library
of German animals https://www.bolgermany.de/. During the GBOL I and GBOL II
projects, DNA barcodes of many species have been generated, and the
reference library currently covers all major groups of German insects
(e.g., butterflies and moths, beetles and bees). The GBOL III: Dark Taxa
project will target taxonomically less thoroughly known taxa ("dark taxa")
of German insects, in particular several families of Diptera and parasitoid
Hymenoptera, using an integrative approach based on DNA barcoding and
morphology.
