[Taxacom] Dispersal... again

If one wants to invoke 'blind faith' one only has to think of the center
of origin/dispersal theory of Darwin that is taken as an article of
faith by most biogeographers and particularly so the molecular
dispersalists. Does this make Darwin a 'nutter? Of course it really does
not matter either way for Darwin any more or less for Croizat. Barbara
McClintock, according to the 'authorities' of her time, was also a
'nutter'.

As a matter of history, back in the 1960's I was induced by Lars
Brundin to read Croizat, whom he (Brundin) held in enormous esteem and
regarded as the ultimate saviour of taxonomy. I convinced our library to
buy both the 3 volumes and the 1-volume summary, which I tried to read
and understand sympathetically; but (like Omar Khayyam) I came out by
that same door as in I went. Why do such prima facie nutters inspire
such blind faith in their disciples?

Years ago is when? What did you read. The 1999 book? The recent grad
student book chapter, Heads' many recent publications?

I did, once, years ago, and found it impenetrable and obfuscated,
although with a glimmer here and there of interesting ideas. Your posts
would lead me to believe that little has changed, but Michael sometimes
clarifies things.
