[Taxacom] Dispersal... again

Hi Don,
?
I wouldn't call Brundin's?attitude?blind faith. While he?did write many favourable things about Croizat,?he also wrote a more critical appreciation: 'Croizat's panbiogeography versus phylogenetic biogeography' (a chapter in the 1981 book 'Vicariance biogeography'). As for prima facie evidence, taxonomists understand more than most?that superficial appearances can be very deceiving.?

As a matter of history, back in the 1960's? I was induced by Lars Brundin to read Croizat, whom he (Brundin) held in enormous esteem and regarded as the ultimate saviour of taxonomy. I convinced our library to buy both the 3 volumes and the 1-volume summary, which I tried to read and understand sympathetically; but (like Omar Khayyam) I came out by that same door as in I went. Why do such prima facie nutters inspire such blind faith in their disciples?

Years ago is when? What did you read. The 1999 book? The recent grad
student book chapter, Heads' many recent publications?

I did, once, years ago, and found it impenetrable and obfuscated,
although with a glimmer here and there of interesting ideas. Your posts
would lead me to believe that little has changed, but Michael sometimes
clarifies things.
