Strange fruit

Thanks to everyone who responded about "balang" on or off-line or even (in
one case) by phone. The consensus is that the fruit is a variety or hybrid
of citron, Citrus medica var cedrata, also known as cedrate.The jam seems
to be quite a well-known Iranian delicacy. See for example
