Recently, in a cladistic paper, I came across the term 'adelphotaxon',
which is an unfamiliar term to me. From the context, it is used as a
synonym for sistergroup, or sister-taxon. I have search for the term in
numerous glossaries without success. Could anyone give me an explanation of
the term, and its use. Thanks!
'Adelphotaxon' is indeed a synonym to 'sister group'. It was introduced by
Peter Ax in his 1984 book Das Phylogenetische System (Gustav Fischer,
Jena), first mentioned on p. 16, but explicitely defined on p. 47. The
English edition appeared in 1987 with John Wiley & Sons, Chichester and New
York (The Phylogenetic System). I do not know whether or not the pagination
of the English version is identical to the German.
