Dear colleagues,
Any who may know Jeremy Holloway will be saddened to learn that he died
earlier this week. Below is an email announcement I received. Even though
we were very much at opposite poles in biogeography, we had some good
interactions and debates over the years. He will be missed.

Dear friends and colleagues of Jeremy,
*Dr. Jeremy Holloway RIP*
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart we write on behalf of Jeremy?s
family to inform you that Jeremy died at Tillinglea earlier in the week.
His brother Nick rang to let us know and asked if we would let his
fieldwork and lepidopterist friends know.
His wish to die at his beloved Tillinglea, overlooking his nature-friendly
garden he and Pippa created, was granted. The daffodils were up, the
chaffinches singing and he took great comfort in knowing the Wollemi Pine
planted in Pippa?s memory, on the 5th April 2023, was flourishing. But his
failing eyesight and health in his latter days have taken their toll. He
is at peace and looking forward to joining Pippa and her laughter again.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Nick and Liz and all the
Holloway family at this very sad time. For family condolences, Nick?s
address is as follows:

Fieldwork friends ? I call on your help. Please could you forward this
email to those not included in the list below, especially Jeremy?s
Cambridge, Natural History Museum, Linnean Society, Royal Entomological
Society, Operation Raleigh and Operation Wallacea colleagues and longboat
companions.
Also please let me know if you (or your colleagues) would like to be
included in any follow up communiques about the funeral and future plans.
If you have any good stories to share, please let us know. We are pulling
together a little write up on Jeremy and his legacy as a naturalist and
author of the 12 Moths of Borneo volumes. The man who quietly and without
fuss, changed our understanding of Borneo and its biodiversity. We have
never been able to keep up with Jeremy?s prolific work ? so we need your
help! Also photographs, which we will print up and put into an album for
Jeremy?s family.
Attached for now, are the few words Shane, Hokey and I shared with Nick and
Liz at his quiet 80th, just two months ago.
Salamat Jalan Jeremy. May the river be high as you soar with angels and
moths above.
With love to all,
Nigel, Shane and Hokey.
Members of the Gunung Mulu (Sarawak) Expedition, where we first met Jeremy
and his moths at Long Pala, back 1978.
