Taxacom: Family Chilodontidae - unresolved homonym in Characiformes and Gastropoda? - now solved

Dear all,

Just an update on my 2010(!) thread started at
https://lists.ku.edu/pipermail/taxacom/2010-April/116226.html

Recently (2024) ICZN have produced a ruling on this issue (and case
submitted in 2011), namely (as I understand it):

- Chilodontidae Eigenmann, 1910 (not 1903 as previously given) in Pisces is
ruled to be an unjustified emendation (by Fowler, unsure what date) of
Chilodidae Eigenmann, 1910, not a justified one as previously given, so the
correct name for this fish family is now Chilodidae (the ICZN ruling
actually deals with these names at the level of subfamily)

- Chilodontidae Wenz, 1938 in Mollusca is therefore ruled to be not
preoccupied, so the proposed replacement name Chilodontaidae (e.g. as used
in Bouchet et al., 2017) is no longer required (again dealt with at the
level of subfamily)

- Chilodontidae Bronn, 1859 (Ciliophora) is now unavailable since its type
genus, Chilodon Ehrenberg, 1834 is now suppressed for priority (I have that
as replaced by Chilodonellidae Deroux, 1970. in IRMNG, hopefully that is
correct).

I believe the above to be correct although I only have access to the
abstract, not the full text of the relevant Opinion, which is available at
https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdoi.org%2F10.21805%2Fbzn.v81.a025&data=05%7C02%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C30f46627c95542951db608ddadf808b3%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C638858003015629579%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=5z9ychl8kWfTTjtljADdzTex48LdLaYmwbwCKIKn00U%3D&reserved=0 . I am happy of course to hear any
additional information or corrections RE my understanding as given above.

Sometimes the wheels of taxonomy grind more slowly than we might wish, but
this one got there in the end, it seems...

Regards to all - Tony
