Taxacom: Journal impact factors and mycological species discovery/description

Hi Henrik,

Great paper, and very timely given what Clarivate is currently doing
with the journal eLife (partially de-indexing it & stripping it of
Journal Impact Factor™). [1]

You may remember a few years ago that Clarivate briefly de-indexed
Zootaxa and IJSEM, implying they were 'bad' journals [2]. The way that
good taxonomy and systematics research is published clearly doesn't
fit the mould of citation patterns that Clarivate wants to cultivate
*shrug*.

I would also remind everyone on TAXACOM that the Systematics
Association (and many other of our professional associations) are
signatories of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment
(DORA) which stresses the need to eliminate the use of journal-based
metrics, such as Journal Impact Factors, in funding, appointment, and
promotion considerations. [3]

It's mostly antediluvian research assessment schemes at governments
and universities that are still clinging-on to Journal Impact Factor™
despite the stupidity of it. If anyone is interested in helping their
government or institution to move beyond JIF-mania, I'd recommend
investigating and/or getting involved with either CoARA (Europe
centric), FOLEC (Latin America centric), or HELIOS (USA-centric)
communities [4,5,6].
