Taxacom: keeping old specimen labels - best practice

Dear colleagues,

I have a friend who is looking into the issue of 'best practice' with
respect to the desirability of keeping all historical labels attached to a
specimen for future reference, including old species names or names
proposed but not published etc. If anyone knows of published articles
relating to that subject I would be grateful to know and pass on. It would
not surprise me that this matter has come up in the past, and articles
published, but as with such subjects, the challenge is in their location
which might be serendipitous at best. I am hoping that one or more people
have seen something that may be relevant. This can be for any animal or
plant group.

Thanks,

John Grehan
