Just a happy note to say that I found an effective alternative, and now a
Research Associate of OpenScienceLab NZ. At least with this connection I
am involved with an organization that shares the same goals of open inquiry
that to me should be the basis of, not the threat to,science. But this
is so sadly lacking in evolutionary biology, and especially in
biogeography. I had assumed that the McGuire Center was all about
fostering Lepidoptera research, and perhaps so, but only within severely
restricted molecular dispersal constraints that brooks no dissent. The
Center appears to have no individually defined goal, but the Florida
Museum, of which it is part, states "The Florida Museum inspires people to
care about life on Earth and help shape a world in which nature and culture
enrich every person." Yeah - right, but apparently only as long as the
world is what the molecular dispersalists believe it to be. Fortunately the
Dark Age of Lepidoptera biogeography has not permeated all of science.
Cheers, John
