Some months ago I made some enquiries about possibilities for a cheap
(relatively) microscope and digital camera. For those interested, here is
what I finally bought.
It was an 'AmScope' SM-1TZ-80S-18M3 3.5X-90X [zoom] Trinocular Stereo
Microscope on Pillar-stand w/ Large Base + 80-LED Ring-light + 18MP USB 3.0
C-mount Camera. Cost me US $845 plus the inevitable tax. I paid more to get
a high megapixel than perhaps needed, but since I had no real idea I
decided higher was better.
So far, very satisfied with the product. View everything on the computer
screen - essential for my declining eyesight. And I can do 3d without
having to stack separate images. It has a function where I can focus at one
point, then 'press' an icon that creates an inserted reference image, then
just gently change focus to allow other depths to come into focus, and then
press icon again to finish and then save the image. All works fine for me.
Anyone curious about resulting images I would be happy to send an example.
May have not been the best available option, but happy with what I have.
Thanks again to everyone who sent me ideas and viewpoints - most helpful.
Cheers, John
