Hi all,
I was looking at a 2016/2017 paper indicating that at least some individuals of Homo sapiens neanderthalensis (neandertals and denisovans) possessed just 46 chromosomes. I guess this doesn't prove that all of them had just 46 chromosomes, but it seems likely most or all of them did, and that the transition occurred earlier.
I am just wondering if there has been any preliminary sequencing which indicates the presence of just 46 chromosomes in Homo sapiens heidelbergensis, and its presence or absence in Homo erectus or floresiensis ("hobbit"). It seems likely their Australopithecus ancestors had the ancestral 48 chromosomes, but it would be nice if this could eventually be verified.
