Taxacom: Renaming taxa on ethical grounds - Peter Uetz, his "the reptile database" and the Russian papers he deleted (over 1000 of them)

Ray, the Russian papers have been back online since late March 2022, hence it was not a ?permanent removal?, unless the word ?permanent? means ?3 weeks? in Hoserian English. The posts you cite as ?evidence? intentionally (!) did not say anything about duration. However, they did say ?this release? and ?temporarily? which objectively is not the same as ?permanent".

Let me repeat it: our temporary (!) removal of Russian papers was an act of protest and not an act of censorship. Look up the two words on Wikipedia.
I won?t respond to any further Hoser rant on this topic.

Peter

However, it is correct that we did remove about 1000 papers by Russian authors for about 2 weeks in March 2022, in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was meant to be a reminder that we all share some responsibility for the actions of our governments. Maybe the temporary (!) removal wasn?t a good decision, but certainly not as bad as the decision to invade a country and kill tens of thousands of people (on both sides of the war, of course).
