[Taxacom] Strange Melolontha

Dear all,

My daughter found a cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha) in central Belgium that was in a very strange condition. The intestines of the animal were completely consumed, reducing the poor creature to an empty chitin carapax with almost only the nervous system left. Still, the animal was alive and still crawling! I have a short video of that. What could be the cause of this situation?
