Hi Mary,
If it is non-native, it is likely a vagrant African Crowned Eagle from an adjacent country. If it is native, it could be a martial eagle since they will attack humans who come to close to their nest.

There aren't many birds of prey, either in far distant times or right now, that reach a size large enough to attack and kill a hominid. There aren't many, but

Subject: [Taxacom] Help with identification of an eagle in Somaliland

There are recent reports of an eagle attacking people, particularly children, in the Somali portion of Ethiopia with, so far, 2 deaths and many injuries reported. The pictures are of a bird thought to be the same kind. They taken south of Burao [=Burco], Somaliland. Local people do not think it is native. Can anyone help with id - or tell me where I should direct this query. I have posted the pictures to iNaturalist.

Mary
