Thanks Neal (not Nael, sure) for the info,

I checked the Opinions that you mentioned (two of them with wrong numbers).

It is intersring to see that all these Opinions confirm my analyses
regarding the heterogemeity of the generic nomina followed by "R." in
Rafinesque. Just like me, these Opinions distinguished:

(1) Nomina nuda, i.e. generic nomina not followed by available specific
nomina: e.g., Muntiacus mentioned in Opinion 460 (not 2333), the 3 generic
nomina listed in Direction 37 or Mabuya listed in Direction 56.

(2) Available nomina for which descriptions/definitions were given: e.g.
all the 1814 nomina listed in Opinion 522.

(3) Nomina which were introduced under the format "Neparia R. Nepa L.",
which are available nomina nova and as such do not require descriptions or
included speciies: e.g. Niphea in Opinion 522, Rhinostomus in Opinion 345
or Parnalius in Opinion 1134..

These are the original statuses of these nomina in Rafinesque's works, but
of course, in the opinions at stake, the Commission, using its Plenary
Powers, has sometimes modified the original status of these nomina,
resulting e.g. in providing availability to nomina nuda (e.g. Muntiacus)
or in validating available nomina (e.g. various nomina in Opinion 522). But
this has no bearing on the original status of the nomen, which in all cases
was treated by the Commission exactly in the same way as I did in my
previous messages.

Alain (not Alian, sure)

refuser tous les fanatismes et jusqu’à ceux qui s’autorisent de la raison;
