Perhaps this situation, to which He et al. and readers of this list were
alerted by Stephen Thorpe, also calls for flagging papers like
> *Dayrat, B.*2005. Towards integrative taxonomy. /Biol. J. Linnean
> Soc./ 85:407-415. http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1095-8312.2005.00503.x
and trying to ensure that discussions of taxonomic actions are included
in our undergraduate teaching and in the training of graduate students
whose work may lead to such actions.
Organism-centered learned societies mught try using their annual
meetings to bring journal editors together with taxonomists and
systematists in order to educate the former about the importance of
using taxonomic databases, depositing vouchers as well as sequence and
other data, and all of the other issues that bedevil our disciplines and
their literatures. Societies could, for example, review the instructions
to authors provided by journals, and point out where they could be
strengthened.
Where this is already being done, it should be drawn to the attention of
others, for encouragement and discussions of the problems that may arise.
