I think the reason is fairly obvious, isn't it? I also downloaded the paper and went straight to the etymology section to find out why the species was named after Trump and what exactly that particular person has done to deserve the honour. As I suspected, the answer was - he has done sweet nothing to deserve it, but if we are extra nice to him, he may potentially do something worthwhile. The naming decision was a successful publicity stunt aimed at attracting our attention to this paper. I am glad it worked, it usually does. But now I will think twice before naming a species after a person I actually respect and who really deserves such a honour. Bit no worries, there are lots of corrupt politicians to suck up to naming new species after them.
Cheers,
Lena

If you check out the readership stats for that paper, it is way higher than all the other papers, just because it names a new species after Trump! I don't know why that is, but it certainly has nothing to do with science ...

Nazari stumbled across a few specimens that did not match
any previously
known species. Following thorough analysis of these moths,
as well as
material from other institutions, the scientist confirmed he
had discovered
the second species of a genus of twirler moths.
While both species in the genus share a habitat, stretching
across the
states of California, USA, and Baja California, Mexico, one
can easily tell
them apart. The new moth, officially described as *Neopalpa
donaldtrumpi*,
stands out with yellowish-white scales present on the head
in adults. In
fact, it was in these scales that the author found an
amusing reference to
Mr. Trump's hairstyle and turned it into an additional
justification for
its name.
