[Taxacom] Anthribidae (Coleoptera)

Hi Doug,

I have managed to get turtles into Brazil from Australia, without too much
difficulty. Other way I have not tried yet. As vertebrates they tend to
have a lot more legislation attached. The important thing is not so much
the mountain of paperwork, there is actually not as much as you would
think, but making sure you get it exactly right, you do more than you have
to you make it worse for yourself. CITES does present a problem in Brazil,
since the government here will not issue CITES numbers to Museums, this
makes it difficult to list one for imports or exports. This can be relevant
beyond CITES listed species as some museums require a CITES number for non
CITES material.

As for the specimens the major issues are preservation, packaging and
demonstrated legal collection. There are guidelines for all of this and
paperwork needed for the Brazilian end, and whatever country you are
sending from/ to. However the actual shipment must meet the international
codes on the shipping of biological material. That is packing instructions
650 under IATA, which comes under UN 3373 for commercial aircraft.

Cheers
