Tony,
The taxonomy here, and its nomenclatural implications, are still rather messy. Aellopos Münster, 1836 was based by monotypy on Aellopos elongatus Münster, 1836, which appears to be a name of uncertain application, thought to possibly be (e.g. by Smith Woodward, 1889) the same species as Spathobatis bugesiacus Thiollière, 1849, but no definite specific synonymy appears to have been made, and, if it were to be made, the valid name for Spathobatis bugesiacus Thiollière, 1849 would be Spathobatis elongatus (Münster, 1836). If the identity of the type species of Aellopos is uncertain, as it seems to be, then what basis is there for the generic synonymy? I suggest that this illustrates a certain amount of futility in trying to database names in the absence of a solid taxonomic basis (i.e. in advance of a modern taxonomic treatment to attempt to sort out all the problems).
Cheers,
Stephen

Hi all,
Sorry, I posted the
information below earlier, but inadvertently sent
it to a single recipient and not the list as
intended - here is is:
The
clearest synonymy assertion I can find is in Jordan,
"The Genera
of Fishes and a
Classification of Fishes", on the page shown here:
https://books.google.com.au/books?id=9LurAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA244&lpg=PA244&dq=Aellopos+Spathobatis&source=bl&ots=OOnA5blhY_&sig=m7uhjr6KvKNnB-MdK5SvJAJRgbs&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwia_Y2I9-fOAhWDVZQKHTP_DiMQ6AEIbzAN#v=onepage&q=Aellopos%20Spathobatis&f=false
The genera are also mentioned
in this work by Woodward, 1889:
IV,—Note
on Rhinobatus bugesiacus—a Selachian Fish from the
Lithographic Stone
AS Woodward - Geological
Magazine (Decade III), 1889.
which can be seen on BHL here:

Cheers - Tony
