[Taxacom] Study skins collections

Dear all,
What is the museum practice today concerning study skins collections?
-is there a washing step involved? (the ectoparasites can be lost here)
-is there any conservation chemical applied on the interior/exterior?
(this can influence the DNA quality of future tissue samples)
