*Position in “Biodiversity modeling of African rain forest dynamics”, at
Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, Montpellier, France.*

The Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) (ww.ird.fr) and the
« Centre for Synthesis and Analysis for Biodiversity » (CESAB, France,
cesab.org) invite applications for a post doctoral position in biodiversity
modeling of African rain forest dynamics. The position is for one year,
renewable for one further year. Situated on the Mediterranean coast,
Montpellier is the center of biodiversity research in France providing a
thriving intellectual environment as well as a very culturally vibrant
place to live.

The position will focus on understanding the past and future dynamics of
rain forest vegetation in Central Africa within the context of the RAINBIO
project funded by CESAB. RAINBIO will compile the largest dataset for
Central African rain forest plant species distributions based on several
georeferenced herbaria databases. Species distribution modeling and other
approaches will be used to address pressing issues about the responses of
these highly endangered ecosystems to past and future climate change.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in ecology, biodiversity, conservation
biology, or a related field. Candidates must have strong analytical skills,
with a proven experience in species distribution modeling, coding (R or
matlab, etc) as well as a good understanding of biodiversity data
management. The successful candidate will be expected to have good
communication skills (able to interact comfortably with a large group of
interdisciplinary scientists involved in the project), a strong publication
record as well as be fluent in English (both oral and written). A
particular interest in African biogeography as well as experience in
project management will be an advantage.

Salary will depend on experience and be between 25,800 and 30,000 € gross a
year. It is expected that the successful candidate will start between
October 1st and November 1st, 2014.
