With all these external
hard drives, all you need is luck! I've been using a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex for
more than three years and it is still up and running but I've heard from people
that lost all their info after a few months of buying an external HD.
Anyway, to avoid losing
all your pdfs in one go, you can always store them on the cloud in addition to
whatever external hard drive you are using. There are several options to do
that but Mega is probably the best choice (https://mega.co.nz/). High transfer
rates and ample space (50 Gb) for free sounds pretty good to me.
If you are using Mac,
you can also use a Time Capsule but it is like most of Apple's product, well,
expensive.
Good
luck!
