>spellings---especially Ouchterlony (instead of Ochterlony) and perhaps
>Gudalur instead of Gundalur. For instance I found the following quote
>using such alternate spellings:
>"Gudalur is much sheltered from the south-west by the spurs on the
>northern boundary of the Ouchterlony Valley."

It's precisely for this reason that one of my
most heavily-used bookmarks is for the Fuzzy
Gazetteer

Even when people misspell place names on labels
(as is very, very common), this website is rather
good at finding them. In this case, no names
similar to "Ochterlony" appear in India, but
"Gudalur" is the #1 result for "Gundalur", and
there are actually three of them out of 28
matching place names
found:
****	Gudalur India,
State of Tamil N??du
