Here are the most common species names of bees, based on the ITIS publication of 19508 species names (http://www.itis.gov/beechecklist.html). As you can see some of the most common names are actually in honor of great bee taxonomists (and their wives, Wilmatt was TDA Cockerell's wife). The list here is only for names used more than 15 times, I can send the complete list if needed...:
