John,
You criticize me for "waffling" for saying "it could have". So
why don't you accuse Michael Heads of waffling for using similar phrases
in this same thread, as follows: "Could they have been incorporated
into America along with the plateaus? This might explain the
distribution of Masteria in America". Perhaps you have a double
standard (bash the dispersalists whenever possible, but do not speak ill
of a fellow panbiogeographer).
In any case, I clearly stated my belief that Masteria might NOT
have dispersed directly from New Guinea to the Philippines. My purpose
was not to irritate you (although your reaction indicates that it did
irritate you), but instead to encourage a search for Masteria in Borneo
(or other islands in between) if someone has a chance to do so. Not
that a special trip should be made, but if someone is going to be
studying or collecting other taxa (insects, bats, or whatever) in or
near Borneo caves, that they might be on the lookout for Masteria
spiders as well.

Granted, it could have dispersed directly from New Guinea to the
Philippines,
Or it could not have. This is typical waffle found in many dispersal
papers (might have, could have, may have etc.)
