[Taxacom] Botanical descriptions and ICBN

validity depends on one diagnosis (or description) in Latin (or from 1-1-2012) or English ... and any number of others in any number of languages. The 'one' makes the name valid (available, in ICZN speak) unless it is challenged as not diagnostic (very rare). The application of the name is determined by the type; the diagnosis in this repect is not that important since the diagnostic characters included are essentially taxonomic opinion and outside the scope of nomenclature :-)
with less haste,
Paul

As a zoologist looking in from outside, so to speak, I am curious to know if
a plant were to be described in both Latin and English would the name be
unavailable due to 'and' rather than 'or'?
Is there a clause giving priority to one language over another in such as
case?
Adam.
