[Taxacom] iplant and taxonomy

Dear All

What is the experience of the taxonomic community with the iPlant project
(2008-2013, US NSF, PSCIC Full Proposal: The iPlant Collaborative: A
Cyberinfrastructure-Centered Community for a New Plant Biology $38,085,189)?
Are there any interactions?

I just read through a recently published description in Frontiers in Plant
Sciences
(http://www.frontiersin.org/Plant_Genetics_and_Genomics/10.3389/fpls.2011.00
034/abstract) and found essentially no links to any of the traditional plant
sciences institutes, that is the Herbaria, Botranical Gardens and
systematics institutes. Searching in the body of the text for "revision",
"systematics" and "taxonomy" yielded only one hit: "Incorrect names and bad
taxonomy presents a fundamental problem to comparative biology".

Thanks for some insights

Donat
