Thanks everyone on and off the list for all the useful tips. I'm looking for?equivalents of the basal passerine in New Zealand or the basal angosperm in New Caledonia, where the sister group is very widespread around the world. There are quite a few of these in Mexico (e.g. Beiselia, basal in the?pantropical Burseraceae) but going north they seem to stop in California.
