[Taxacom] FYI: JStor provides information about types in some collections

Another outstanding source is:

Barnhart, John Hendley (1871-1949). 1965. Biographical notes upon
botanists, 3 vols. Compiled by John Hendley Barnhart and maintained in
the New York Botanical Garden Library. Boston, G. K. Hall, 1965.

Since Barnhart died in 1949, it stops there, but it deals with most
taxonomic botanists prior to that. The other day I was trying to find
out something about a Russian botanist. Three different spellings of his
name are cross referenced in Barnhart, so I was then able to find him in
other sources under various spellings of his last name.

As good or even better than TL-2 in many cases is the set of 7
"Collectors" parts of Index Herbariorum.

The other good source, of course, for older botanical authors is TL-2,
which usually says where the author's original/main herbarium is held,
and lists other herbaria holding smaller sets.
And it gives a good round-up of biographical papers that people might
want to consult for further information.

Regards
Karen

Thank you Peter Schafer for point this out. Alas, it did not work for
Agropyron velutinum - but I have been advised to ask LD. Thank you to
all those who have helped me with my inquiries. Sure beats writing
letters to one's best guesses!
