I Recommend this site as a useful tool. Works well for other academic domains.

Perhaps, with a little lobbying a taxonomy and systematics tree could be set up. Although it may be hard to "guard against .. Jokesters". That said, is there any interest in setting up a taxonomy or systematics academic tree?

The Academic Genealogy of Evolutionary Biology has been launched and is
being hosted by http://academictree.org/

The Academic Genealogy of Evolutionary Biology is a free, volunteer-run
website designed to help you track your academic genealogy. Our goal
is to collect information about the graduate student and postdoctoral
connections between most researchers in the field.

Please add yourself and your PhD and post-doc mentors -- once the tree is
seeded with ~200 names the tree will be linked to academictree.org's main
page. Note that there is a Drosophila Genetics tree, and entries can be
cross-listed among trees. Contributors can add anyone, but site editors
will be maintaining the page to guard against vandalism and jokesters.
