For those interested in such things, I'll be giving a paper this Saturday
in San Antonio at the annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature
using cladistics to determine the genealogical affiliation of some 50+
manuscripts of the Gospel According to Mark.
Because hybridization (called "contamination" or "mixture" among textual
critics) is a lot more common among manuscripts than metazoans, the
paper explores and proposes a parsimony-based approach to inferring
reticulate phylogenies.
The paper is called "The Origin(s) of the 'Caesarean' Text," and a preprint
is available at http://www.hypotyposeis.org/papers/Origins-SBL2004.doc
