INFOCOMP is a project that uses modern archiving techniques for
traditional botanical resources to make them globally available. It
involves the digital imaging of Compositae nomenclatural types. Of
the estimated 2,500 types held in the Munich public herbaria
(Botanische Staatssammlung Muenchen (M) and Systematische
Botanik der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen (MSB)) 2,100
have been photographed, resulting in approximately 14,500
high-resolution digital images. The type material has been
scientifically evaluated and the bibliographic information rigorously
checked before being linked within the database. The type data has
been mostly completed and is now available over the Internet simply
by accessing the Botanische Staatssammlung web pages under

 http://www.botanischestaatssammlung.de "Projects" and
"INFOCOMP" to find the link or at the following address:

The geographical foci of the collections in the types database lie in
Africa, Europe and South America. The most significant collectors
represented include Martius, Pringle, Schimper, Naegeli, Rechinger,
and Ecklon. The most significant authors include Naegeli & Peter,
Robinson & Greenman, Rechinger, Richard and Boissier.

The display of the database images is optimal when using "Internet
Explorer" software. Please send any comments, queries or updates to
