Lynn, I will be happy to provide references and information from the
archives of PERMIT-L, as well as an outline of the permits overview we teach
here (and which has also been presented at several professional meetings and
will be part of a panel at AAM this spring). Please drop me a note off-line
and I'll be glad to get this to you. The information is out there, but it is
a moving target.

Lynn Clark asked that I post the following query to this group. I will be
happy to "intercept" any messages posted to the list to forward them to
Lynn, but if you'd like to reply to her off-list, her e-mail address is
lgclark at iastate.edu. Note that her request for article citations is NOT
just limited to collecting in the US, but internationally, as well.

Thanks!
Deb

I am team-teaching an advanced systematics course (graduate level)
starting
next week. The course will focus on basic principles and procedures in
taxonomy, nomenclature, and classification, and we will also cover
phylogenetic systematics. One topic that we plan to discuss is specimen
collection/biotic inventory and related to that, the current issues
surrounding permits and regulations. We would also like to discuss the
ethics of specimen collection. While there are a number of references
that
deal with the mechanics of specimen collection and preservation, I have
not
been able to find anything dealing with current issues pertaining to
permits and regulations, nor have I found anything on the ethics of
specimen collection. Is anyone aware of any articles dealing with these
subjects?
