Botanical Research Institute of Texas
The Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) invites applications for
the position of Collections Manager. We seek a highly motivated individual
with strong interests in floristic research and conservation, a good
understanding of computer-based programs used in botanical informatics,
grant-writing skills, and preferably with a doctorate in systematic botany.
This is a senior level position and the primary responsibilities include
directing the herbarium and the potential development of a botanical
database, as well as supervision of a half-time Associate Collections
Manager, a full-time Assistant Collections Manager, a full-time mounter, and
several volunteers. The ideal candidate would have interests in regional
floristics, conservation, and related systematics, and would develop an
active research program. BRIT is a relatively new and growing, privately
supported research institution in Fort Worth, Texas. The herbarium
currently holds about 1,000,000 specimens, and the library has nearly 75,000
volumes. The successful candidate would join a small and highly motivated
staff, and would enjoy the prospect of being directly involved in developing
the BRIT herbarium and library in a new facility to be constructed adjacent
to the Fort Worth Botanical Garden. The salary range is competitive.
Expressions of interest in the position are solicited before January 31,
2003, but the position will remain open until filled.
Inquiries may be directed to: Dr. S. H. Sohmer, Director, Botanical Research
