At its Nov. 2003 meeting, the AAM Board of Directors issued the attached
statement of deep concern about university natural history museums,
citing the risk to irreplaceable objects held in the public trust and
the shared legacy that these collections comprise. It urged university
administrators and others influencing university funding to preserve
these collections and continue to provide public access to them, and to
begin a national dialogue to promote their long-term stability. This
statement may be valuable to museums facing these problems. The full
text is available on AAM's website (http://www.aam-us.org).
