Taxonomy's Value to Society: Call for Case Studies

Hello all,

I just yesterday came across something that I hadn't seen before, with the
above title, in the March 2003 SABONET news. Please excuse if this is old
news to most of you. It is based on recommendations from the Global
Taxonomy Initiative workshop in Paris during February, 2003. Their website
is www.bionet-intl.org. Links and explanations are provided
there. Basically, they request one-page case studies of how taxonomic
resources and knowledge have been used to benefit society and meet user
needs, or how the lack of taxonomic resources and information has led to
poor decision-making, negatively affecting society in some way. Those
museum closures jumped into my mind when I saw this. I can post more
details (what they want included in those one-page statements, etc.) if
anyone wishes. The case studies are to be posted on their website for
anyone to see and use (not copyrighted).
