An excellent example is available from the Aquatic Invertebrates of Montana
pages, by Daniel Gustafson. For an example, see
<http://www.esg.montana.edu/dlg/aim/mollusca/potant.html> where you get a
summary on the New Zealand mud snail, click on "Recognition" for ID info, or
"Distribution" for a map generated from a database of label data. Click the
"Continue" button to see a list of possible maps. Select 'Greater Montana
Area.' under "dot maps" If you click on a distrubution dot, you get the
collection data for the site involved.

A very nice model for a species page, I think. If you back out from where I
started you to <http://www.esg.montana.edu/dlg/aim/> you can find a lot of other

pages on clams, annelids and insects, with varying amounts of detail.
