Julia,
If you are looking for species pages with dynamic generation of dot
maps and histograms of seasonal occurrence based on specimen label
data, then check out http://www.entomology.ualberta.ca/
Go to "Browse the Collection" and check out the Lepidoptera,
especially butterflies or moths, for the most complete sets of pages.
We have about 1000 species pages for Alberta insects, of which about
500 are Lepidoptera. There is a brief textual description of
geographic range and other natural history features, since collected
specimens from collections can't tell the whole story. There are also
links to references in our university library, as well as a
hierarchical search, and search forms for specimen label data or in
species pages.
There are lots of compilations of species pages out there on the
internet, but what distinguishes our pages is the dynamic linkage
between specimen data and species pages.
Cheers,
Felix
